Stork data scheduler: mitigating the data bottleneck in e-Science.
In this paper, we present the Stork data scheduler as a solution for mitigating the data bottleneck in e-Science and data-intensive scientific discovery. Stork focuses on planning, scheduling, monitoring and management of data placement tasks and application-level end-to-end optimization of networked inputs/outputs for petascale distributed e-Science applications. Unlike existing approaches, St...
متن کاملDiscovering, Assessing, and Mitigating Data Bias in Social Media
Social media has generated a wealth of data. Billions of people tweet, sharing, post, and discuss everyday. Due to this increased activity, social media platforms provide new opportunities for research about human behavior, information diffusion, and influence propagation at a scale that is otherwise impossible. Social media data is a new treasure trove for data mining and predictive analytics....
متن کاملTopics in Mitigating Radar Bias
In this paper, we investigate two topics related to mitigating the effect of radar bias in ballistic missile tracking applications. We determine the absolute bias between two radars in polar coordinates when their relative bias is given in rectangular coordinates. Using this result, we then obtain the optimized steady-state filter to handle the random bias.
متن کاملExperimental Research Data Quality In Materials Science
In materials sciences, a large amount of research data is generated through a broad spectrum of different experiments. As of today, experimental research data including meta-data in materials science is often stored decentralized by the researcher(s) conducting the experiments without generally accepted standards on what and how to store data. The conducted research and experiments often involv...
متن کاملLarge multidimensional data visualization for materials science
How does a crack propagate in a composite material? How does a highspeed projectile interact with its target? And how can we use this knowledge to make fractureand impact-resistant materials? Materials science poses such questions, and we can answer them by simulating materials on supercomputers and analyzing their properties. Scientific visualization is an excellent tool in this analysis, and ...
